How to Find A Right Display Driver for Inspiron 1521?

I recently installed a 64 bit Windows 7 to my Inspiron 1521 which its OS was Windows Vista 32 bit. The screen resolution is off due to an incorrect height - width ratio and the max is 1024 x 768 where it should be 1280 X 800. Since it has a new OS, its service won't help to find a right display driver, I assume. How can I find a right display driver in this case?

Thanks for your inputs in advance.

Hi Vernon034

Please send a screenshot of the device manager. Check the hardware id of each unknown device and reply with the information? To check the hardware id

1. Please right click on the unknown device go to properties in Device manager.

2. Select details, under details tab select hardware id of each unknown device (graphics card) from the list under property and provide me the one which has the longest value.

Hi Shrikanth G,

Where I shall send a screenshot of the device manager? Where I can find unknown device? I can't see any on the device manager panel. Hard to follow what you said.

Thanks Natahuc4 for your information. I, however, can't find related device driver under

Inspiron 1521 – Windows 7 64 Bit

This model and Operating System is not supported by Dell.

It is recommended to upgrade it to 4 GB of RAM if it doesn't have 4 GB already.

This is a Media Direct system and the Media Direct partition should be setup before installing

Windows 7. This is covered in Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean install of Windows

7 Step 7b. The MD Application should be installed after the drivers.

Under the Display adapters, Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. I believe that needs to be replaced by something else.

After installed two items under Video: ATI Radeon X1270 and AMD AutoDetect*. The screen is as what it was. I expect to see another item in the screen resolution panel other than "generic PnP monitor on standard VGA graphics adapter".

The screen get darker for some reason, however.

It could be a power saver setting.

Having similar problems with video driver on my inspiron 1521 running win 7.  I installed the x1271 drivers okay.  AMD Autodetect unfortunately comes back with no drivers found.  No change after reboot.  Any thoughts on how to make the new drivers take effect or how to get around this?
