Welcome to the community, Pushkar!  We're so glad you're pursuing another certification, have you completed the courses that you need to prepare, and have you taken the practice test to get an idea of how ready you are for the exam?  Here's the link to the practice exam if you need it: https://education.emc.com/main/internal/certification/emc_ta/emc_ta_san.htm

Please let us know if there's anything else we, in Education Services, can do to help.

All of our TA gurus out there, how about some tips to help Pushkar prepare for the exam?

Hi Michelle,

I have joined the community just 5 mins back and very happy to read the introductions of fellow members.

I have done my EMCPA(E20-001) and the BURA Specialist for TA(E20-590). I'm planning to give SAN TA E20-530 in next 3 months. Would appreciate if I can get some guidance from our gurus.

Thanks

Pushkar

Thanks Michelle,

I'm yet to complete the course, but in process. Most of my preparation is from my practical experience. But SAN TA being a vey advanced exam, I do not want to take any chances and hence would be glad if I can get some tips from our experts !!

Thanks

Pushkar

Hi.  I'm Chuck Royer.  I work for Coventry Health Care now, but I am a former EMC employee who worked mostly in the Professional Services/Residency practice.  My certifications include:

     - Implementation Engineer, Symmetrix Business Continuity Specialist

     - Technology Architect, Storage Management Specialist

     - Technology Architect, Symmetrix Business Continuity Specialist

     - Technology Architect, Storage Management Expert

All of my certifications are the Version 4.0.  I'm guessing that there are newer versions of all of these now.  I'd be interested to know if any of these certifications "expire", and what I can do to stay current.

Welcome Sudheer, Joe, and Chuck! You guys bring a ton of experience and expertise to the table!

Chuck, you may want to start a discussion about the specific exams you have questions about. I'm sure others have the same question and I'd hate to see the answer get lost in this thread.

Hi Chuck,

Most of our EMC Proven Professional certifications don't 'expire.'  At the Specialist and Expert levels, you're eligible for Knowledge Maintenance, which provides proactive udpdates when the technology in your speciality or expert level changes.  Have you ever received a Knowledge Maintenance course in your eMail?

Other than that, please access our website to  stay current with the program and with your specific certifications.

Your credentials are impressive!  How have your certifications helped you.....or maybe you just love taking exams

Michelle:

Thanks for the information.  I have never received an e-mail regarding the Knowledge Maintenance.  I'll check into the website you provided.

To answer your questions about whether certifications have helped me, the answer is "Definitely Yes".

First of all, in my position(s) at EMC I had certification requirements to get my incentive pay.

Secondly, when I decided to leave EMC and go back to the customer side of things my certifications were extremely helpful for getting my resume on the top of the list and justifying salary requirements. The companies I have worked with over the years recognize the value of these credentials and have been willing to pay for them.  I'd be curious to know if others have had the same experiences.

I don't plan on changing companies any time soon, but it might be a good move to update my credentials.  I'll check into it.

Hello Arvind, one of the best things about a community like this is we get to 'talk' to people all over the world.  It's really amazing when you think about, there are EMC Proven Professionals just about everywhere.  Do you have friends or colleagues in India who have their certiifcations?

Hi, My name is Mac and I have EMCPA certification.

I live in Wellington, New Zealand.

I have had various roles based around EMC equipment.

I helped set up a green field site with Symmetrix (DMX1000), Cellera (NS702G), Clariion (CX700), & associated SAN (DS32B)

on a production and DR site. I since moved on and have worked with CX, CX3, AX and SAN as a Pre sales and tech support role.

Currently in a contract using Celera (NS40G), Clariion (CX3-80), Centerra, and implementing more Centera, SourceOne and FMA as well as ECC.

This is a varied environment and quite challenging.

I have found that certification is not always required, I did not get my EMCPA until last year, a lot depends on attitude and aptitude.

Also a thirst to aquire and assimilate new technologies and ideas.

My background is not in computers but in an electrical field and got in to computing through support of UPS's and air conditioning systems for a datacentre.

It evolved by supporting Windows desktops, then servers, to UNIX and enterprise technical suport, to Storage.

therefore a wealth of experience accross a broad spectrum. Not adverse to turning my hands at what evere comes along.

Best regards

Welcome Mac!  I think that's one of the things that I love about the technology industry, that thirst (and requirement) to stay current in a field that is constantly growing and changing. I hope you know that earning your EMCPA makes you eligible to participate in our annual Knowledge Sharing competition.  This is a great way to share what you've learned, see your article published on our website, and maybe even win a prize!

Do you have any plans to pursue Specialist level certification?
