Are versa rails compatible with threaded hole racks?

My new rack has threaded holes but all I have are versa rails. Are these compatible??

Versa Rails are designed to mount in a non-threaded hole.  However, it will work as long as the holes in your rack are a 10-32 thread or larger.  This is the problem.  Dell Rails are designed to mount on the inside surface of the rack.  The Versa Rails have threaded holes on the mounting flange.  To attach the Versa Rails the screw goes through the rack threads and into the Versa Rail threads.  This causes the screw to tighten against the rack and not neccessarily tighten the Versa Rails to the rack.  The Versa Rails could potentially work themselves loose.

There are numerous ways to solve this issue.  The easiest method is to drill the threads out of your rack, however most people don't want to do this.  If you hold the Versa Rails up to the rack firmly and use some Blue semi-permanent Locktite it will prevent the rails from coming loose.  There are some other methods you can use but these are the cheapest and most simple.

Thanks, Will for a most informative reply. I was assuming everything you said, I just needed to make sure I didn't miss anything. I think I may just get a new rack. I have room for one more. I think I will get a square hole rack with 28 7/8" depth. I'm assuming this should be fine for the versa rails??

If you use versa rails you need a round non-threaded hole rack.
If you use rapid rails you need a square holed rack.

If you do purchase a square holed rack and want to use versa rails we have a versa rail alignment kit that will center the versa rails to prevent misalignment.

I have mounted some versa rails into square hole racks before. Seems to work but you kind of have to eyeball and center the screws yourself. Is that what you mean? Can you give me a link to your alignment kit? I'd love to see it.

Our Versarail Alignment Kit perfectly centers the Versarails in the square hole and prevents them from moving and becoming misaligned.

If you type in Versarail Alignment Kit on our website (or Google) you can find it.  Dell's Forum Policy prevents me from posting any links to a commercial website.  If you have any questions give me a call.
