The first step would be to determine if it is just an issue inside the OS or a hardware problem. If it is just happening in the OS then it is probably a driver issue. You should be able to check the hardware log and iDRAC for information on the status of the network daughter card. You can also boot to something like our Support Live Image to test functionality in another operating system.

I see this, the server is runing, changed the rizer card to another but no luck. I have pfsense runing and it startes normaly with no error. Just the onboard lan not working.
Hi, I bought a second hand Dell PE R420. I equipped it with two E5-2470 V2 processors and 2x 16Gb RAM (4x4Gb x 2). But the system only sees one processor and only 16Gb ram. I have tested both processors in turn and they are working. From what I have read, I should only install a PCIE_G3_X16 rizer for both to be operational? In fact I see 'SLOT1 PCIE_G2X4(PCH) on module RISER1 and RISER2 is PCIE_G3_X16.
Second question, is it possible to install "iDRAC Express" on a R420? (as on my R210)
Can you check in BIOS and see second process or is available. You can also check in iDRAC for second CPU inventory and for any error message in LifeCycle and SEL Logs.
Hi guys @DELL-Joey C i got hold of 2 Dell Poweredge R420s they were running with a Xeon E5-2407 he sent me the video of the boot init.. but he removed the cpus because i had a pair of E5-2470v2 , when the servers arrived i plugged the cpus in on slot cpu1 and cpu2. so far so good, inserted 32GB ram 2 slots Samsung ddr3 1066mhz , plugged in the 2 power cables on both power supplies.. and booted the server, but no signal video or audio.. on the frond display we have the error HWC2005 system raiser error.. check cable connection.. on both servers, i saw that the error could be memory or CPUs.. so i removed the memories and plugged it back on a R410 and it worked all 32GB memory showing up.. i am wondering if could be outdated BIOS that does not recognise the E5-2470v2 ? Also is there a GEN1 and GEN2 Dell R420 models? if so how can i find the difference between both? i konw the older generation servers had a marking on the left side I and II for gen2 servers.
But not sure if on the R420 it still exists the markings.. aldo i could not find it anyways on the outside of the server.
Edit: Both servers are running with dual redundant 550Watts PSU so i dont think this could be an issue to the CPUs could it?

Dear Daniel!
In the logs there are now error or info
New device detected: P2PBridge(Embedded 28-1) New device detected: DDR3 DIMM(Socket B2) New device detected: DDR3 DIMM(Socket B1) New device detected: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2450L 0 @ 1.80GHz(Socket 2)

Found the problem, black point for the creator of the manual.
If you upgrade to two processor, the pci lanes changes and you get a new id for your lan interface-es.
Because i run my firewall on it it made a big mess on it.
Should be writen somewhere this.

For riser you can refer below link for details

Hi @Sirlou,
Yes, you are correct. Referring to the user guide https://dell.to/34z7ZPZ you need both Risers to be PCIE_G3_X16.
Not only the risers, you need FAN6 to be installed, reference guide: https://dell.to/33cCxGs
As for the iDRAC express, you can refer to the sales for license purchase. https://dell.to/3uHuDjC
