Dreaded iDrac not initializing problem

Hello, I have a Dell r520 on which the iDrac cannot initalize and the fans are working at full speed - no LCD display. I have tried: - Powering the server off for some time - holding the "i" button for 1min - I have tried to boot from the Dell update DVD to reflash the firmware but it gets stuck at the inventory step - I have tried to flash from the production OS, but I got an error message (I do not know if it is because the iDrac is not accessible or because the utility is not compatible -> my System is Debian, not RHEL or Suse) - The lifecycle manager is not eccessible either. Do you have an Idea what I could try? Best regards, Manuel

Hello,

Using the I button to attempt the hard reset of the iDRAC was a good place to start. With that not having helped, I would recommend the following:

1) Unplug the power cables, then hold down the power button for about 30 seconds. This should force the iDRAC to restart, because of the power loss.

2) If that fails, use the NVRAM jumper on the motherboard to clear the NVRAM. You would need to cover the common and far side pins of the jumper standoff. I'll link to the user guide to help locate the standoff.
