Install OS on Dell m620 without raid card
Can OS be installed on Dell m620 without a raid card? There appear to be two types of backplane for the m620:
SAS RWV1C
SATA CYK8N
I am wondering if these backplanes are enough to install the OS and use the server without any raid card.

Dusty Rah,
You can install without a hardware raid controller installed, as the M620 has an embedded software raid controller (S110) as seen here. If you go to the BIOS, under Sata Settings you will enable the Embedded Raid, that will turn it on.
Hope this helps.

Hi
Did you ever get this working? I'm trying to setup a few M620s with it RAID cards and the S110 can't see the drive in there
They only show up if the H310 is connected, but I'm trying to remove them and use the S110
Thanks

no you cant the s110 software raid doesn't do. you need to install the raid card on the m620 before you can install an o/s unless you running off the two sd cards at the back which no windows os will install on "
