Minimum number of memory modules needed to run a R720 xd

I need to identify a bad memory module by trial and error I assume.

This server has dual CPUs.

Can I put a stick in just A1 and B1 and have it boot? The manual's "sample" memory configuration table did not show that as an option. In the sample memory configuration table I only saw a minimum of 8 sticks.

I have no experience with servers. Our server guy dropped out of our volunteer tech team at the non profit school I support and I need help figuring this out.

Thanks for your help.

Trents,

You can run on a single dimms, as that  is part of the Minimum To Post configuration.

One Power Supply
Control Panel (for power button functionality)
Working cable connection between control panel and system board
One Processor (CPU) in socket CPU1
One Memory Module (DIMM) installed in socket A1
System Board
Backplane

As well it is showing that it can run on a single 2GB dimm.

Would you clarify the error you are seeing and I can give you steps to identify the issue as well, also have you run the embedded diagnostic on the server yet? You can see that on page 133 here.

Hope this helps.
