PERC H730 SPEED, NON RAID, RAID 0...

I want to know if the PERC H730 will do12gbps in non raid? I have googled this for 3 weeks and cant find any clear answer, only answers when RAID 0, RAID 1, etc... the PERC H730 is a 12gbps card, I want to know if it will do 12gbps in NON RAID mode or if it has to be a RAID to do 12gbps? This is not a hard question bur for some reason there is no info in this.

Thanks, John

Hello again, my apologies.

Whether it's

RAID or Non-RAID,  Up to 12Gbps per port.

Hi,

https://dell.to/3bzwfkF

Converting physical disks to non-RAID disk

  1. Enter the Dell PERC 9 Configuration Utility. See Navigating to PERC 9 Configuration Utility .
  2. Click Configuration Management > Convert to Non-RAID Disk .
  3. Select Select Physical Disks to Convert to Non-RAID.
  4. Select the physical disk and click OK. A screen is displayed asking if you are sure you want to perform the operation.
  5. Click Yes to continue.

That's one of the workstations, not a server. I'd have to point you towards the workstation board for support on it. I took a look at it's support page as a courtesy anyway, but didn't see an entry. The folks on the workstation board may be able to provide better information.

I don't work with Windows 11 or the Precision series of products, but it looks like it may still have an iDRAC interface. You might consider logging into that to confirm that the controller actually is negotiating a 12Gb/s link speed to the drive. I don't believe OpenManage Server Administrator would be an option in this case, because of the OS.

There isn't a 'special' driver for the PERC, just the one found on the support site. I'd be happy to provide a link to it for you to cross-reference against what is installed currently, but I'd need to know which version of Windows you're running and the server model. As for the storage performance piece, the 12 gigabits-per-second only refers to the negotiated link speed between the controller and the backplane (then the connection to the disks, as well). There are going to be a number of factors beyond this metric influencing storage performance, unfortunately.

This is why I was asking about the speed in Non-RAID. the board is the same as in the R740. I can see all settings in the iDRAC,

its says:

Negotiated Speed 12 Gbps
Capable Speed 12 Gbps

this is why I was asking about the speed in non-raid mode.

I don't expect to get 12Gbps but I would expect 8 or 9

So whit this said. Do I need to load a special driver for the PERC H730 in windows?

I have a Dell Enterprise 400GB 12gbps SSD in the system connected to the PERC H730 in Non-RAID and speed test is 1065 Read, and 868 Wright. so no where close to 12GBPS.
