PowerEdge R815 Optimal Memory Configuration
I have an R815. It has 4 Opteron 6168 processors. I have 16x 8GB modules and 16x 16GB. I have looked at the manual and I have tried two different combos based on that and the case. I get the memory not optimized for both. Here are the combos I have tried:
All 16GB on Processor 1 & 2 8GB on 3 & 4 (This is how I thought the manual stated)
All 16GB on channels 1-4 for each process and 8 GB on channels 5-8 (This is what the case seemed to indicate)
Any ideas?

Hello
If they are all dual rank then the best population would be:
16GB in slots 1-4, white release levers
8GB in slots 5-8, black release levers
If one of the modules is quad rank then that would take precedence over populating larger sizes first. If you are receiving population errors then make sure all of the memory is functional. If one of the modules is faulty it will cause memory population errors, and it would likely lead to other modules being disabled. The memory population rules are in the manual.
