R610 RAM configuration
Hi all, Brand new in the community hoping you guys can help me out. I am trying to upgrade the server from 32 to 64 GB. Having a R610 bios ver 6.3 procesor: 1 Current memory setup 32GB 4x8GB RDIMM 1333MHz Advanced ECC Mode placed in sockets A2356 I puchased 2x16 GB (2Rx4DDR3RDIMM1333) and want to add so we have 64GB. Tried different setup but nothing seems to be working. In the server manual is max 8GB mentioned. Please advise, Many thanks ! Danny

Hello
You are using all of the available slots already. Advanced ECC mode disables slots 1,4. If you want to use those slots you will need to change the memory mode to optimized.
There is not a supported configuration for the memory you have, but it may still work. I think the flexible memory feature was added to this system with a BIOS update. Without that feature unsupported configurations would result in a system halt or modules being disabled. The flexible memory feature allows all memory configurations supported by the memory controller to function.
You can try this configuration, it is the best I can think of.
16GB - 1,2
8GB - 3,4,5,6
A better configuration, that would be supported:
16GB - 1,2,3
8GB - 4,5,6
You can find information about memory population rules and guidelines in the documentation on the system support page. You can also find system updates, like the BIOS. I suggest making sure you are on the latest BIOS, and I would review the BIOS release notes to see if flexible memory feature was added.

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your fast an clear reply. My best option then will be to perform a bios update and order 1 extra memory module of 16GB witch I will do.
Great !
Thanks again.

Hi
After downloading the correct BIOS update via the service tag of the server I started the update under Windows.
After restart the server hangs during startup, no screen at all, no access at all anymore. Tried to disconnect hardware and restart . No result. Tried both VGA port to connect my screen but the screen stays in sleep mode.
The Hard dives have fot a solid green light and thats it.
Heeeeelp ! This is a production server for our company. Does anyone have ot any suggestions ?
Thanks for any ideas...
Best regards,
Danny

When updating the system BIOS the server may appear to hang during the next restart. You should not interrupt this process. I suggest that you turn the server on and let it complete the update.
