Yes, using only riser A(A,C,E,G)on each CPU is a supported configuration.

Hello

No, there is not a supported configuration to add four 32GB quad rank modules to what you have. Each riser should have an identical memory population, and memory should be installed in pairs. Even though it is not supported it may work. Most of our 11th generation and later servers support the flexible memory feature. Flexible memory will allow configurations that are not optimal or unsupported by us. If the memory controller will allow it then the modules should not be disabled. On 11th generation systems a BIOS update may be required for flexible memory.

If you want to add 32GB modules then you need a minimum of 16. The 32GB modules should be in slots 1,2 on each riser and the 8GB modules in 3,4. Memory should be populated by rank from highest to lowest.

It looks like that processor may be the Nehalem family. You should review to see if there are DRAM limitations on the CPU. Some, or maybe all, Nehalem CPUs are limited to DRAMs of 2Gb or smaller. Some validated memory modules of 16GB or larger use 4Gb DRAMs that would not be supported. If your CPU is limited to 2Gb DRAMs then check the memory to see what DRAM sizes are used.

Thanks

How about if I remove all 8GB RAM sticks and install 8x32GB in each CPU RAM bank.( 2 each at RiserA,RiserC,RiserE,RiserG)?

Is this supported config?

Hi Daniel,

I've been working for a couple of weeks to get the following to work....and no luck...would love some advice.

We have a R910 with 4x X7560 - 2.26GHz. There is 64GB installed 16x4GB 4Rx8 PC3-8500R-07-10-H0-D2.

The 64Gb configuration works fine. The 16 sticks are in position 1-2 of all 8 risers.

We have an additional set of sticks 16x16GB 2Rx4 PC3L-10600R-9-13-E2 (1333Mhz 1.35V ECC Registered)

We have tried to put the 16 16GB sticks in slots 3-4 of all Risers, or just by themselves in 1-2 of all risers. We've also tried in 1-2-3-4 of only 4 risers (A/C/E/G) and just do 8 sticks in 4 risers (1-2).

When we combine the 4Gb and 16Gb sticks, the error is:

"DIMM unsupported: Memory Riser E DIMM 3
Memory Riser E Lockstep Pair DIMM 3 and DIMM 4 disabled.
Unsupported Processor, Buffer and Memory Configuration
Please replace the DIMM or remove the lockstep pair."

After enabling the Lifecycle Controller setting to "Collect system inventory" we get the error :
"Message PR1: Replaced part detected for device: DDR3 DIMM(Socket E1)
Message PR11: Part Replacement license is not present, replacement action(s) will not be performed"

If I take out the 4Gb sticks and just try to use the 16Gb sticks in various configurations the system does not POST and i just get an error on the LCD screen:

"E2026 Memory initialization error"

Any help is appreciated.
