Server Dell PowerEdge R430 2xCPUs temps are at 75ºC on iddle

We bought a new server and the temps are around 75ºC on iddle. The chassis is so hot that it burns my hand.

It has 2xCPUs Intel Xeon v4 @ 2.20GHz Broadwell-E/EP 14nm

I ran the hardware tests on the Lifecycle controller but everything passed.

Is there something I can do before contacting the reseller?

Hello,

For people having similar problems I fixed it by going to:

BIOS Settings - System Profile Settings – CPU Power Management and by default it was on Performance.

Used a different profile/adjusted to my needs.

After that I got temps of 28ºC on idle fixing my problem and not having the processor frequency on max (turbo)

Thanks.

Hi,

First I would make sure the BIOS is updated to 2.6.0 and iDRAC to 2.50.50.50. You might also want to minimize usage or power off until the issue is isolated. Please send a private message with your service tag to ensure we have all appropriate information on your system.

Thanks,

Hi,

Sorry for the delay.

I've update:

BIOS: 2.5.4 --> 2.7.1
iDrac: 2.50.50.50 --> 2.52.52.52
The problem persists unfortunately, during the installation of the idrac w/ lifecycle the fans speed increased and the temps dropped to 50ºC. Still, I think it shouldn't be necessary to increase the fans almost to max speed to see normal temps.

If you could private message a TSR (this can be pulled via the iDRAC) along with the service tag we'll look at all factors that might be causing this.

Thanks,
