Upgrade RAM (8 GB) with Poweredge R200 server - is not working
Hi,
I have a problem with RAM.
The server just run with
2x 1GB Samsung modules - M391T2863QZ3-CF7 (1GB 1Rx8 PC2-6400E-666-12-F3.
Until today I had no problems, except to less memory running Windows 2012 Server R2 :-(.
So I've bought the following modules:
4x 2GB Samsung modules - M39T5663QZ3-CF7 (2GB 2Rx8 PC2-6400E-666-12-G3.
All modules build into the server - server is not booting up and the 4 LEDs show memory error.
Putting in 1x 2GB module (doing it with all 4 modules) = No problems
Putting in 2x 2GB modules into the server - server is not booting
I've already checked each module under Win 2012 with HW64 info tool - the modules are exactly the same
in specs!
I have another R200 server (just different CPU) and repeated all the tests with this one = same problems!
Hope anyone can help me with my problems
Thanks in advance
Frank

Care-IT,
Do you have the Dell part number for the dimms? I would start with making sure the server is up to date on BIOS, iDrac, raid controller, and chipset (if avail). I believe the issue is going to be that of compatibility, but lets get it up to date to increase the chance of it recognizing the dimm.
Let me know what you see.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your answer
The DIMMS are not from DELL - they are from Samsung - the part number is:
M391T5663QZ3-CF7
The BIOS is 1.4.3 (which is, as told by DELL the latest version)
I am not using RAID
Please, what is iDrac?
OS: Windows 2012 R2 Server
Funny thing is, I am using now the following RAMs (2x 2GB) from an old HP dc7800 PC ...
G Skill F2-6400CL5-2GBNY (PC2-6400 DDR2-SDRAM UDIMM Non ECC)
... and they are working - so currently I am running the server with 4GB RAM
Thanks for your help
