What R640 Perc supports Oracle Enterprise Linux 7.6
Hi Pipz,
We would like to confirm if what Perc card to use that supports Oracle Enterprise Linux 7.6. last time, we ask if R640 supports OEL 6.7 and some of you answered that R640 with Perc H730P can support it. but now, the client will use OEL 7.6. Will we continue to configure for H730P or proceed to the newest Perc (H740)? We need to confirm this first because the client will purchase a lot of servers from us.

Speaking generally, what we see when another company validates our hardware for use with their software at the model level, like an R640, it validates anything that the platform would have supported. Meaning that since the R640 supports multiple controllers, they normally also get validated.
I linked to Oracle's page for the R640, it's the only resource on the subject I could find. They don't make a specific statement about any specifically supported or unsupported RAID controllers, though.

I can't speak to how Oracle did their validation, I can just say how things normally go. Normally, if a server model is validated, then any hardware that server supports is validated. I will say though, that the driver we use for the H730P and H740 in RHEL 7 is the same driver file. I would expect that it's the same case with OEL. I don't see a reason there would be an issue, based on that.
