Yes. Both processor on the server need to be exactly same model

With single CPU you can only use 12 DIMM slots (A1 to A12). Other 12 DIMM slots(B1 to B12) will be active only when CPU 2 is installed. You can find more details on this from below link.

R640 support 64GB RDIMM. With 64GB RDIMM you can go upto 768GB with single processor. If you need to get 1024GB memory then you can either use eight 128GB LR DIMM or upgrade to dual processor.

if I will upgrade the processor, the second processor must be the same as the installed one?

or I can select another model?

Can I mix RAM for the same processor as mentioned below?

6 x 32 GB RDIMM => already existing

6 X 128 GB LR DIMM => i will buy and install

Hi, maherkhalil Shine's correct.

  • RDIMMs and LRDIMMs must not be mixed.
  • NVDIMMs and LRDIMMs must not be mixed.
  • NVDIMMs and RDIMMs can be mixed.

Hello

Now, I need more RAM. so, I decided to remove the RDIMM RAM and replace with LR DIMM to get more RAM

since LR DIMM is very expensive, I plan to by 3 x 128 GB of LR DIMM to replace 6 x 32 GB of RDIMM.

Is it possible or I have to buy 6 numbers of LR DIMM?

Hi, please see here

https://dell.to/3G657rj

"Mixing of more than two memory module capacities in one system is not supported.
Unbalanced memory configurations will result in a performance loss so always populate memory channels identically with identical DIMMs for best performance.
Populate six identical memory modules per processor (one DIMM per channel) at a time to maximize performance.
DIMM population update for Performance Optimized mode with quantity of 4 and 8 DIMMs per processor.
When the DIMM quantity is 4 per processor, the population is slot 1, 2, 4, 5.
When the DIMM quantity is 8 per processor, the population is slot 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11."

Hello

I will not mix RDIMM with LRDIMM

I will remove 6x 32 GB RDIMM completely and replace them with 4 x 128 GB LRDIMM for now

Is it possible without problems?

As stated previously, it isn't recommended to mix, you can try but it likely will not be optimal, or supported.
