EMC/VMAX Storage Engineer


 

 
Responsibilities
 

   • Provide technical leadership and decisions for projects.

 

  • Manage, plan, and coordinate efforts and resources on portfolio and functional projects.

 

  • Review and provide requirements for Concept Design Docs

 

  • Work closely with project managers to create and update project plans

 

  • Prioritize and staff multiple projects

 

  • Responsible for the adherence and enforcement of the project life cycle including estimating Engineering effort, project plans, system design specs, participating in technical reviews

 

  • Provide strong organizational skills

 

  • Foster teamwork among staff, peers and cross-functional teams.

 

  • Work closely with the Architecture team to provide input to new technology strategies.

 

  • Work closely with Peers to improve workflow processes & communication

 

  • Responsible for Infrastructure Support (3rd Level) for:

 

  • Servers – Solaris on Sun, Linux on HP Blades

 

  • Database Servers – Oracle Parallel Server (8i, 10g), Sybase 12.5, 15

 

  • Storage – EMC DMX, VMAX & Clariion • SAN –Cisco MDS

 

  • 3rd Party Software – RSA, BEA, Sun, SunGuard, EMC

 

 
Qualifications
 

   The candidate is expected to work closely with a multi-location, multi-discipline team and be able to use both technology and communication skills to overcome the distances between locations. The candidate should be flexible and able to overcome challenges in a win-win manner.

 

  • 10-15 years, hands on, experience as a Unix Administrator in a lead position.

 

  • A strong engineering educational background is preferred.

 

  • Multi year experience with EMC Storage Arrays and Software – Symm, DMX, Clariion, VMAX, EMC Control Center, Powerpath, SRDF, Timefinder, Optimizer, Enginuity

 

  • Multi year experience with Solaris on Sun servers – workstations- Sun Fire 12K

 

  • Multi year experience with Linux on HP – DLxx serves - Blades

 

  • Experience managing multiple projects and day to day activities.

 

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

 

  • Ability to lead junior members of the team with very little input from upper management.

 

  • Expected to learn and enforce existing processes as quickly as possible.

 

  • Excellent trouble shooting skills.

 

  • Ability to assist Network teams with trouble shooting network issues.

 

  •The candidate should have a strong understanding of TCP/IP networking as it pertains to host configurations.

 

  •The candidate should have strong experience in clustering technologies including Veritas, SUN Cluster Server and OPS.

 

  • The candidate should have strong experience administering three-tier client/server environments

 

  • Travel between Boston and New York is expected
