Inter-cluster communication over the management interface

Question

Hi all,   We are in the process of locking down some networks and a RecoverPoint question came up that I cannot find a definitive answer for.   'Do the RecoverPoints use the Management interface IP for inter-cluster communication?'   In other words if we restrict access to the Management interface IP to a single system used only for management will it break anything? The security guide goes over protocols and ports but I did not see anything that lists specifically what all the uses of the Management interface IP were.   Thanks   John C.

Hi John,

Connectivity between clusters over the LAN/MGMT ports is completely optional, meaning that the system would work just fine without any LAN connectivity between clusters (and there are many deployments with this config) but we would use this pathway for control path if it exists, if not, it would be over the WAN ports.

Note that if LAN and WAN on the same subnet then it means couple of things:

1) All traffic would go through the LAN interface

2) In 5.0 and later, if LAN and WAN are on the same network, one interface and consequently one IP can be used.
