RecoverPoint Continuous Synchronous

Per RecoverPoint 3.0 Admin Guide a user cannot specify Continuous Synchronous replication rather the RPA's detect which method is best. Does anyone know if RecoverPoint CRR will ever support a user setting the mode to Continuous Synchronous making it more like MirrorView Synchronous? Thanks!

I presume you understand the implications of synchronous replication?
ie if you have a slow link between sites, it will affect production peformance.

Of course in CDP, RecoverPoint does a fine job of not letting that happen as it has certain abilites when on the same SAN to do catchup via lag, marking or highload and allow production not to suffer.

I can ask the question to the appropraite teams, but the takeup of forced synchronous distance replication (over 50kms) would be minimal I can imagine.

James.

Thanks James! The link in question is 500Mbps, but I am not sure on the latency. The distance is right around 25-30 Miles. More curious than anything else, I do realize the impact. Thanks for the feedback!

As far as I remember, EMC can force replication to continuous synchronous per customer request, probably after explaining performance consequences :)

I have a response to this.
True (enforced) synchronous replication is not supported today.

If you have a particular need, then I recommend that you should talk with your local EMC rep to submit a Request for Enhancment or else you can submit an enhancement request via Powerlink.

Thanks
James
