Query for open replicator - Hot pull or pull
Hello Guys,,
I have a doubt that using Open replicator PULL or HOT PULL mode...
Does the remote device must need be offline to hosts ???
if yes,, please suggest ,, as I have to migrate data from VNX ( having production luns ) to VMAX 3 .
Which method I can use for SAN based migration where VNX production luns can be available online to production servers during the migration time..

If you are pulling to the VMAX devices (control devices), then your remote devices should not be accessed at all during the migration. Using a hot pull though, you should use the donor_update feature and when you are ready to activate the session, you would take a brief outage to flip the host LUNs to the VMAX control LUNs for read/write access. This also gives you your PiT for the migration while all host applications, etc are down. At that point all writes to the control devices will be propagated to the remote devices (not accessed) with donor_update. Also, any tracks that are requested on the control devices that might not have been copied yet by Open Replicator will be copied over during the migration (Copy on Access).
