NCM API - Use of releaseAPIResources()

Question

Successfully using the API to access NCM 9.4.2 in order to retrieve collection of Networks, Sites and Devices.  Upon completion of data extraction, should the method releaseAPIResources be called prior to ending the application? Whilst not used in the example sources, it does exist within the API methods. .What is it's purpose and should it be called ? Regards Joe
