EMC vRealize Navisphere CLI Download

Jump to solution

Hello,

I cannot seem to find the correct download link to get the Navisphere CLI .RPM file for vRealize. I just installed EMC Storage Analytics and need to install the Navisphere CLI to my data node.

I also thought that the best option would be to find the file on the master node and just WinSCP the file from the Master to the Data node. However, my searches for the following name on the VROPS master node has come up with nothing:

naviseccli-bin*.*

I got this name from the documentation for installing EMC Storage Analytics.

Here is the referenced documentation:

Installing Navisphere CLI

For VNX Block systems, you must install the Navisphere CLI
(naviseccli) in the Data Node

that you assign to collect metrics for VNX.

Install the CLI before you add the EMC Adapter instance to
vRealize Operations Manager.

If the CLI is not installed, errors might occur in scaled-out vCenter environments that consist of a Master Node and multiple Data Nodes. The CLI is automatically installed on the Master Node. However, because the Data Node collects metrics, the EMC Adapter might report errors if naviseccli is not installed.

To install the CLI:

Procedure

  1. Enable Secure Shell (SSH) for both master and data nodes.

Refer to Connecting to vRealize Operations Manager by using
SSH on page 177 for instructions.

Extract the pak file by using decompression software such
as WinZip. Copy the naviseccli-bin-<version>.rpm file (for
example, navisecclibin-7.33.1.0.33-x64.rpm) to a target directory in the data node.
If you arev using Windows, you can use WinSCP for the copy operation. Establish a secure connection to the data node and change to the target directory.Run this command: rpm -i naviseccli-bin-<version>.rpm where <version> is the appropriate version of the naviseccli utility for the node.

So...instead of asking for the file and fishing for me, can someone either tell me what directory the RPM file sits in on vROPS or perhaps provide the link the correct download locaiton on EMC?

Thank you!

Gowan

Hi Gowan,

Due to the recent change in vR Ops, it seems they remove the package after installation.  So the RPM file is not available on your master node.

If you have the ESA installation package, you could just extract it with your zip software.  You will find the rpm file in the root folder of extracted files.

I will ask our doc writer to update the document accordingly.

Hello Gowan,

it sounds like you are trying to get metrics from one VNX system into vRealize Operations through the EMC Storage Analytics adapter. The vRealize Operations data node, would be only required if you are scaling beyond what the vRealize Operations App supports with the initial setup to my understanding (supported VMs, Hosts, metrics...). In my lab setup I have never installed anything additional on the vR Ops appliance except adding the EMC adapter for vCenter and the storage system.

But if the documentation is not clear on this point, please raise / verify with EMC support.

Typically all EMC Software you may download on http://support.emc.com

Regarding vR Ops data nodes I found the following in the documentation

vRealize Operations Manager 6.0.1 Documentation Center

"Data nodes are the additional cluster nodes that allow you to scale out vRealize Operations Manager to monitor larger environments [...]"

Sizing KB article http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2057607

So typically in an intial role out you are not using additional data nodes except you have a requirement due to scale or a multi site / geographical scenario.

That was exactly what I needed. Perhaps in the documentation there could be a note saying how you can pull the .rpm file from the .pak file with 7zip or something like that? The only other coment I have is when I search for the navisphere CLI in the support page al other versions except the .rpm appear. perhaps creating a web page with a download link there can help others?

I do think that versioning will be an issue, if I can pull down an older or newer version how does that affect the stack? just my thoughts from a administrative perspective.

Thanks again, that was simple and very helpful!
