710m hard disk replacement
Hi,
My 80GB hard disk of 5-years old 710m dell inspiron had died yesterday.
As I checked an old forum entry, it say I can get a new one up to 120GB PATA hard disk only due to BIOS limitation.
Please help to advise if there is any method to increase this capacity since I am only able to find larger size PATA hard disk Malaysia, in range of above 250GB.
Do I need a BIOS upgrade or anything?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

You can use a larger capacity drive - just be sure you partition it with a first, 120G partition and install windows to that. once that's done you can create a second partition to use the rest of the drive.

If the BIOS senses it at 160, you're set. The 700m won't -- it has a 120G limit. The 710m must have support for larger drives the 700m doesn't.

Ejn63, thanks.
I got a Samsung 160GB drive and somehow the BIOS recognized it as 160GB as well. I partioned as whole 160GB and it worked fine with XP also. My Bios version is A06. Maybe this has something to do with?
