AHCI for Dell Inspiron 530

Hi, I have just installed a Samsung 840 EVO 250 Gb in my Dell Inspiron 530 (Quad Q6600) running under Win 7 32 bits. BIOS version 1.0.18 (latest) The SSD really works very well, giving a lot better boot time than with the previous hard disk. However, I am running under IDE and AHCI is not enabled. 1. Will it make a lot of difference to the SSD performance if I would be able to get AHCI running on my system? 2. If yes, how can I get the AHCI to work? Thanks for your help!

It won't make a lot of difference but it will make your system more efficient.

Hi Osprey,

Thanks for the information. Will have a look at it this week.

Do you think going from IDE to AHCI will make (a lot of) difference?

Hi, Lourens26.  I want to make this change too, and have the same configuration you do.  I want to leave the old HD in for backup.  My only question is what kind of cable I need.  The ones I see advertised don't look like they would fit the 530 power cable.  What cable did you use? Thanks.

Hi Dennisab,

All SATA drives use the same type of data cable.
