Add SATA3 Controller to Dell T3500

I would like to add an SSD to my Dell Precision T3500 but the onboard controller is only SATA2.

Can I add a 3rd Party SATA3 Controller? If so where I can find a list of supported devices.

Thanks

Hi Dell_user_au,

All of these controller cards are about the same. If it supports your OS, it should work. It's not the cards but the SSD that makes a difference. And as you can see from this article, "there's frankly very little improvement to realize in jumping from SATA 3Gb/s to SATA 6Gb/s".

Thanks for the link to that great post, I wont be moving to SATA3 just right now.

One last question, can you recommend what drivers are a *must* to update for Storage.

I'm currently using the OOTB drivers with Win7 and want to mimise bloat, but want to make the storage side of things is running at an optimum level.

As long as Intel RST is kept up to date, you're fine.
