Alienware X51 R2 Disk drive not reading DVD's

Just purchased his desktop literally had it 2 days, and already have problems, the dvd drive is not reading dvds? I tried deleting upper and lower filters, which resulted in my having to system restore, probably just a faulty drive, is there anything else I can do to resolve this?

My OS is windows 7..

Hi BBrad123,

Please run the diagnostics on your drive from the utility partition. That's the only way to sort out whether this is a hardware or software issue.

Hello Osprey4, I'm having the same problem as Bbrad123.
I did the diagnostic thing that you were talking about, but it just told me that I passed all tests..
Disk drive is still not working. :emotion-6:

Hi Darktrum,

Tell me what type of discs your drive is not reading and what kind it does read.

Its also a Blu-ray player, (BD-ROM Drive (E;)
I tried a Blu-ray cd , normal DVD, video game, and a software disk
and none of them work..

That drive is dead. Call Dell and they will replace it.

Hi darktrum and BBRAD123,

In addition to what Osprey4 has said, I would suggest you to try the steps suggested in this link: http://dell.to/12d4Uvg

Please try the steps and let me know how it goes.
