Automatic install of new DVD burner not working

Hello,

I have a Dell 8300. As my initial DVD burner  (TEAC) was not working any more, I bought a new one (Samsung SH-S222A/BEBE).

I removed the IDE connection and power connection of both the CD reader and the DVD burner (DVD burner was not accessible otherway).

The PC has then be used without the CD and DVD burner for a week.

I then installed the new DVD buner as well as the connection with the CD reader still in place (I didn't swith their locations).

Neither the DVD burner nor the CDE reader are accessible through the explorer.

I looked at the setup (F2 key when booting the PC) and the Secondary master and Slave drives (both defined as AUTO) are showing "Unkown device".

Any idea that could help me ?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

Hi Jacques L,

Did you set the drive jumper to cable select? This is the default for Dell systems.
