Automating HDD firmware update process for desktop/laptop

Is there a way to automate this like server update utiltity (SUU)?  I would like to perform automated HDD firmware update during deployment process.

Hi Nivlacckw,

Impossible to provide help without more details about the hardware involved.

I would like if it is possible to update hard disk firmware for desktops/laptops in an automated manner within windows. I am used to Dell system update utility on windows servers. I just wonder why the hard disk used by desktop/laptop cannot be done in the same way.

It should be doable with systems supported by OpenManage (OptiPlex, Latitude).  It likely isn't possible with consumer-grade notebook systems (Inspiron, XPS, Studio, Vostro, etc.)

I am referring to all SATA HDD used by the entire Optiplex line.  Currently I have included bios automatic update script for different Optiplex models (330/755/760/780/790/960/980/990) in my Imagedirect Dell images. I wonder if I can do the same for HDD firmware so it is also part of the deployment process.
