Look in the Device Manager..........

Start | Control Panel | System in classic view | Hardware tab | Device Manager

Click on the (+) next to DVD/CD-ROM drives.  Post the brand and model of the drive.

The TSST TS-H353B DVD-ROM Drive is not capable of writing to media.
It can read CD and DVD media, but cannot write to either.  User's
Guide is here ............

You can replace the drive with one that will write to media.

Ok, so does that mean i have to get one and put it in?  i have one from my old computer but how do i know if it will fit into this computer?  Are they all one standard size?  Or is there something else i have to do?

They are standard is size, however, your 531s requires a SATA drive.
Older drives are IDE (PATA) and will not be installable in your system.
If the other drive is SATA, you can use it.  Otherwise you will need to
obtain a new drive.  I would recommend a DVD burner from a good retailer
like
www.newegg.com .  They cost less than $40.

Your Service Manual is here ............

It is well written and illustrated so you can easily replace the drive.

I suspect a burner from 2004 might be an IDE drive and may not be compatable.
Check the rear connector.  If it has 40 pins it is IDE.  If it has a small data connector,
it is SATA.

Review the Manual for Removing and Replacing Parts to become comfortable with it.

Hi, I've been having a problem with my drive HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC H10M SCSI for quite sometime now. It use to work when I first got it. Now when i'm trying to burn me a personal cd it will go through the process in WMP like it is actually burning the cd. But when I take it out to try to play it in a cd player, it has nothing on it. When I put it back in the computer to see if it will play, it reads it as a blank disc again!!! I have given up on this issue a long time ago, but now i'm ready to start enjoying my desktop again. Can you help me out?
