CD/DVD Drives not recognized - Code 19

First time poster...

My Dell Inpsiron 530 w/VISTA won't recognize CD/DVDs.  I think they quit working when I installed SP1.  When I go to the My Computer window, the drives are not listed.

When I checked status on Device Manager, I got the following:

Drive #1 "Location 0 (Channel 0, Target 0, Lun 0)"

Drive #2 "Location 0 (Channel 1, Target 0, Lun 0)"

Both Drives  "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19).  Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."

When I click Check for Solutions nothing happens.

Thanks for your help - Jeremy

I'm having a similar problem as well. Windows XP on my Latitude D520 won't recognize any CD/DVD drives (even USB ones). Tech support tried to fix it for me, they even sent me a new drive, but it didn't matter. They said I had to reinstall the operating system, which I really don't want to do.

Were you able to resolve this situation another way?
