Can I just remove Roxio/Sonic software

Hello.

I have a Dell Dimension 9150 with Win XP Pro, SP3, HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8487B, SONY DVD-ROM DDU-1615.

Can i just remove/uninstall all the Roxio/Sonic software?

Will my cd/dvd's work without it? Is there other software that i can use instead of Roxio/Sonic even if i have to buy it?

I'm sick of all the problems this (see are a pee) software is causing me.
