DVD/CD Rewriter: No device detected

Hello!

I bought an Internal DVD/CD Rewriter but the device is not detected. In the forum I find no solution, so I decided to post (the first time).

- First I removed the old DVD/CD Rewriter.
  Sony DVD+/-RW AW-Q1-60S
  Controller: Serial ATA
  Port: SATA-1

- Using the same SATA power und signal cable next I attached the new DVD/CD Rewriter.
LG Internal Super Multi DVD Rewriter 24x
  Modell: GH24NS50
  Interface: Serial ATA

- After starting the Computer the DVD/CD Rewriters LED is not blinking. On the screen appears the message:

*********
Serial ATA AHCI BIOS, Version iSrc 1.02.23 11212006
[...]
Controller Bus#00, Device#1F, Function#02: 02 Ports, 01 Devices
  Port-00: Hard Disk, ST3250820AS
(This device is controlled by the RAID BIOS)
  Port-01: No device detected
AHCI BIOS not installed
Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager option ROM v6.0.0.1022 ICH8R
[…]

Drive 1 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-1
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility
*********

- The BIOS Drives SATA-Operation is set to "RAID On" (not "RAID Autodetected / ATA").

My System:
- Dell Dimension E520 - bought March 2007
- Windows Vista Home Basic, SP 2
- Dimension System BIOS, version 2.4.0
- Storage Controllers (listed in the Device Manager)
  - Intel(R) ICH8R/ICH9R SATA RAID Controller, version 7.5.0.1017
  - Microsoft iSCSI-Initiator, version 6.0.6002.18005

Can someone help me? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi Andreas,

First, serial ATA CD or DVD drives should be attached to connectors labeled "SATA4" or "SATA5" on the system board. Change that.

Next, boot to the BIOS (F2) and in system setup options look for drives. It should list SATA 0 through 5. SATA 0 is your hard drive, and SATA 4 or 5 is your DVD drive. Those should be turned ON and the rest OFF.

Hi Osprey,

on your advice I attached the SATA signal cable on the system board with the "SATA4" labeled connector and turned in the BIOS SATA 1 OFF and SATA 4 ON. Unfortunately it does not help. While booting now the message "Port-04: No device detected" resp. "Drive 4 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-4" appears. As a test I mounted my old DVD/CD Rewriter on SATA 4 and it works. Is maybe my new DVD/CD Rewriter faulty?

Andreas,

Yes, I suspect either the drive is bad or there is an issue with compatibility.

Hi Osprey,

I exchanged the LG Internal DVD Rewriter and the new device is detected.

Thanks, Andreas
