DVD Drive does not show disc content
I reinstalled Win XP on a Dell E310 Desktop,
Have installed all the drivers from the dell site including a driver for the DVD drive (D), but nothing shows up when I insert a disc to install software?
Checked the device manager, it shows that the drive is OK !
If I insert the Win XP install disc, the DVD drive show the files !
The drive must be working?
Please Help! I am stumped!

Any type of disc
It would not read the Dell drivers CD that came with the computer,
MS Office install CD,
and I also tried a audio CD.

if the drive can show the contents of a Win XP install disc then the drive is working properly
what type of disc is it not able to read?

Yes, only the WinXP installCD
When you insert a disc in the drive, the light flashes,
you can hear it spin up,
but nothing shows - no title on the drive letter, or content when you open the drive letter.
