Data recovery after Error Code 0146
My Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop, bought in september 2010 doesn't start up windows and gives the msg error code 2000 - 0146 when running the diagnosis test after tapping F12 at startup.
I am aware that the laptop is still under warranty with dell, as it is less than 1 year old however that is not my main worry: the data is my main worry.
I've never backed it up and i'm very worried that all my photos and memories will be lost forever:emotion-9:.
Even though i have a 'whatever happens' insurance from pc city (the store where i bought it from) they say that data recovery is not included in my insurance and want to charge me 99 pounds for it and I am not guaranteed to get it recovered at all.
Is there any hope of recovering my data? and Is there any way I could do it myself?
Thanks a lot.:emotion-2:

If the system BIOS (F2 at powerup) still recognizes the drive, remove the drive, mount it in a 2.5" SATA USB 2.0 case and attach it to a working system to see what you can still read.
If the system BIOS does not see the drive, it's beyond home recovery - you will need a data recovery professional. That won't be inexpensive - in the US, such recovery routinely exceeds $1,000 just for a basic job.

Looks like the system does still recognize the drive. Remove it, mount it externally, attach it to a working system and see if you can recover your data. The external cases are inexpensive in the US -- $10-20 or so.
