Dell Inspiron 531, need instructions for spare SATA/IDE HD
my system has AMD Athlon 64 x dual core procc., running Vista home premium. It supports 4 SATA drives. HD is installed on SATA0, CD/DVD on SATA1. So have SATA 2 & 3 avail. I have 2 drives I can install as spare (neitgher of which is SATA.) I tried to research what I needed for this & the more I looked the more confused I got, because they all said something different. Like, I needed IDE/SATA convwerter chip, IDE/SATA power cable converter, SATA Data adapter. PLEASE ADVISE as to what I actually require & steps to accomplish it with as little $ as possible PLEASE. The drives I have are:# 1 = Maxtor Max Blast Plus with a 40 pin IDE & 4 pin power connection. # 2 = Quantum Pro Drive LPS (270S TB27S502 REV 01-H) with 50 pin, 4 pin power connection. I appreciate any help, & hope I'm doing this correctly, this is my first ever post. Thank you

SATA is not IDE hence you need an adapter. The power connections are also different.

Hi Idahospud,
Let me know if you try the adapter. I've never actually seen one of these work.
