What happens when you start the system and there is no disc in the drive?
Does it start normally?  Does the drive show in My Computer?  Does the drive
show in the Device Manager?

Hi Skybird, when i start the system without a cd it sometimes gives an error that there is no modular bay present but if i restart when i get this msg it starts up fine, it shows the drive in My computer but once i put a cd in the drive it dissappears, even though the drive is not in My computer it does show that it is present in Device Manager

When the drive is not showing in My Computer, look in the Device Manager
and right-click the drive and select Properties.  What does it say, that is,
does it say everything is working or does it give an error code.

It could be that the connection of the drive is intermittent.  Physically remove
and reinstall it so as to possibly improve contact.

It shows the drive is working properly, I have tried physically removing it and reinstalling it, but I get the same problem
