Dell Latitude X1 Internal Hard drive Replacement?
I've found one thread stating that Toshiba had come out with compatible HD's in the 1.8 inch style for this PC.
Mine has a 40GB HD and I was wanting to throw a 80GB in it.
I found these through a google search:
http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=HardDrivesOpticalDrives/1.8-inchHardDiskDrives
Anyone know if I need a particular 1.8 inch drive and where is the best, most reliable, most economical place to buy one?
I was "hoping" for a 5400 RPM one.
I priced a 4200 RPM 80GB through Dell and it was an astronomical (at least to me) $271 plus shipping.
Thanks! :smileywink:

Yeah, all the ones I see listed on Toshiba's site are listed as some type of ATA whether it be 3, 4, 6, 7 etc...
To my knowledge, the HD in the X1 is IDE. This is what the HD in my X1 looks like.

The thread I found on this forum mentioned a Toshiba model MK8007GAH. This model is actually outdated per Toshiba. If I'm not mistaken, that Thread was lasted posted in 2006 so it is a old thread.

I can stil find the MK8007GAH for sale at a couple places but it ranges $250 used to $400 New which is outrageous.
Maybe I'm off my rocker but I was thinking around $150 for a new one.

The only 5400 unit seems to be a serial ATA drive, which you cannot use - you must use the parallel ATA version. At that, there are a couple of different connectors on these drives - be sure you get the one you have (I believe it's a ribbon ZIF connector, not the pin connector).

It's not clear, because it also says ATA.
This one is ATA-6:

ATA7 is SATA and won't work.
This one should:

But the pin configuration on that one looks nothing like mine (pictured in post above).

That's different than mine.

That link you gave, when you click on specs, shows to be ATA7.

Indeed it is a ZIF. I don't see any Toshiba 80G that aren't either ZIF or SATA.
There's a 60G that looks suitable:
http://www.impactcomputers.com/mk6006gah.html
The only other manufacturer of these is Hitachi and they list only the ZIF styles so that may be the best you can do.

The 5400 rpm Toshibas appear to be all ZIF or SATA, so they're out.

Well, I would prefer 5400 RPM, but I would settle for a 4200 RPM, just not at $200 + dollars.
