Dell XPS 502X L Display not working.

My Dell XPS 502X has a bad display. I can hear that the system has booted up, but the display doesn't lit. When I connect any external monitor, I don't see anything on the external monitor either.

Any help in debugging the issue? Could it be a bad display driver or card? Can i do anything about it?

Hold the D key through powerup.  If you get a series of LCD screens, with alternating color/patterns, the LCD is OK.  If that's he case, and there's no display through the internal screen even before WIndows loads, the GPU has failed - meaning the mainboard needs to be replaced.

I booted the laptop after 3-4 months and it was lying cold in garage. The screen worked for first few minutes and then the screen became grey. I was able to connect to an external monitor and able to see the contents on external monitor even when the laptop screen is grey.
