Dell XPS PLDS BD-RE DH-481S

I recently purchased an HD camcorder and am attempting to edit/burn blu-ray discs of the movies.  My computer is Dell XPS 420 Vista SP2.  The Blu-Ray drive that I am attempting to burn the movies with is an internal PLDS BD-RE DH-481S drive.  I have applied all driver and firmware updates.

I am using Adobe Premier Elements 8.0.1 to author the movies. I specify Preset = "H.264 1920x1080i NTSC Dolby" as the output for the Adobe Premiere burn.  I am using Verbatim BD-R 25 GB blanks.

I have posted my problem on the Adobe's Premiere Elements forum.  The consensus is that there may be a hardware or firmware issue with the Blu-Ray drive on my computer.

How do I determine if the Blu-Ray drive is the source of my problem?

Andrew,

I'm so sorry. I should have checked the model of your drive. You can write to CD and DVD media, but your drive can only READ blu ray discs. The good news is that you have two 5.25" bays and could easily add a BD-writing drive.

Hi Andrew,

Can you tell me more? Any error? Does Adobe start the burn and fail or what? Have you tried creating the file set and burning with another application?

Adobe Premiere Elements 8 (PRE8) completes the encoding step successfully.  During the burn step, it produces an error - "Adobe Media Error Property Data Invalid".  Nothing is burned to the disc.  I am able to burn the movie to a 4.7 GB DVD successfully.

I next tried burning the blu ray movie using the software combination Phantom Burn (to produce a blu-ray ISO file) and Img Burn (to burn the disc).  ImgBurn errored with the following error log:
