Dell XPS8700 with a 4TB internal drive

I purchased a 4TB HDD drive to replace/upgrade a failing 2TB HDD on my XPS8700. I intended to clone it to the 4TB drive. Since it didn't come with any data cables, I put it in an older external enclosure and attached it via a USB 2 cable. Even though I formatted them as GPT in disk management, it is reading it as 2 disks (2TB and 1.6TB). Does the Dell XPS8700 not support reading discs >2TB? Can I make it a dynamic drive then clone it without issues?

It sounds like the "older external enclosure" is what doesn't support drives over 2T.

I guess it is a possibility. I guess I need to get a data cable and hook it up into the 2nd bay.

Bear in mind that a drive over 2T requires a GPT layout and a UEFI boot to serve as a boot drive.

I have a 5 TB in my 8700. It's not a boot drive but it works fine.
