The 5.25" IDE optical drives of the Dimension 1100/B110, are not 'Half Height'.

Okay Bev thanx for the reply but I the link you sent does not metion anything about the size of the drive. I knew for a fact at least the one 1100 I have seen does have a half height drive installed (but it may or may not have been OEM). So know that I have the service tag according to the system specs

1       X7570    Assembly, Compact Disk Read Write, 48X, Half Height, Hitachi Lg Data Storage, CHASSIS 2005

so I'm wondering what you based your statement on?

I have a B110. I installed a full height 5.25" DVD-RW/+RW drive in it. They're inexpensive and standard size. What more would you want???????

i have installed optical drives in Dimension 2350, 2400 and 4600 Mini Tower systems, that all have same Mitac ATX chassis [Case] as the Dimension 3000 and they all use the same size 5.25" drive, as the unit shown HERE

He/she says he/she has a Dimension 1100  not a 3000. But it really doesn't matter as the the case on the 1100/B110 takes a standard 5.25" full height drive.

I am not sure what his/her obsession is regarding a half-height drive. I suppose you could get one. We bought a few of the small form factor (SFF) Dell Optiplex desktops at work and they did come with a half-height drive. They act like laptop drives in that the tray springs out instead of smoothly coming out when you push the eject button.

You are right, my bad.  LOL

The 3000 also, has the same Mitac ATX chassis as the Dimension 1100/B110.

Thanks for the clarification Bev. I was hoping you were right but after looking at the specs given by Dell it didnt seem so. I haven't seen the box itself so I wanted to be sure I didn't need to find a half height to fit due to some internal obstruction.

You don't have the box. I tell you I do and I have installed a DVD burner into it, and you won't believe me??????
