My 8400 CD DVD Player will not accept cd`s no matter what brand I have tried to use Microsoft updated and gave me a new media player look to it it still will not accept the disk. I havea windows pro,service pack3 pentium(r)4CPU  3.20GHz   3.19GHz   3.00RAM. Tell me you have a solution. Kat

Your optical drive may be failing.

Test the drive with the Dell Diagnostics.  The Diagnostics should be on your hard drive.  Press F12 at startup while the blue Dell is on the screen.  This will take you to the boot menu where the Utility Partition or Diagnostics will be a choice.  Run the Custom Test for the drive and have a data CD (not music CD) in the drive for the read test.

If you're in the U.S., you can get a new drive like this for $17 or so.
