Do I have a bad hard drive?

Yesterday my computer (Inspiron 1545) got really slow after I shut it down, It had been working pretty good for the last few months. (this is not the first time it has happened) I usually just reinstall windows OS and the problem stops occurring but then after a few months it suddenly gets slow and won't start up at all. I am currently testing for hard drive problems and am getting a lot of error messages: 0f00: 244, and other of the sort. Of all the tests it has only passed one so far. I know it looks like an obvious bad hard drive but the why does it work ok after I reinstall windows 7??? Please explain this to me. Thanks.

Hi Leo18,

Yes, you need a new hard drive. This sounds like a situation where you have bad sectors, something a fresh installation of the OS can work around, at least for a while. A few bad sectors is not a huge problem, but when you start getting more and more of them, then you pretty much know your drive is toast.

Obviously, the good thing for you is you've got your important stuff backed up.
