Dropped Vostro laptop error message 0142
I dropped my vostro laptop and now it won't run. Diagnostics shows the following error code: 0142. I think I need a new hard drive. If that is true, can I order a replacement from Dell without having to pay for expanded service (I am out of the warranty period)? If get a new drive (I have replaced it once before under warranty), will it come with the OS installed or is that extra?

You can order any 2.5" 9.5 mm SATA notebook hard drive from any vendor you choose. Any drive will come blank and need to have the OS installed; if you didn't get the DVD with the system and are in the US, see the link below (outside the US, contact your local Dell office).
