How do I get rid of Pop-ups? Please Help

Run a popup blocker.

A post in the Software - Other Software forum will be benificial. (I don't know of any free popup blockers)

To all, I've recently noticed a program called "Interstitial ad delivery by n-Case". This is a pop-up generator which will innundate your desktop. If you execute "Add/Remove Programs" on this, your pop-ups will stop.

Take a look and let me know if this was your problem..

Brian... i was hit by that n-Case and did the add remove thing and it sent me to n-Case's site to remove it but IT DID not remove it, upon rebooting its back as well as a few more files that my fire wall blocks that try to access the internet.  msbb.exe and ClrSchp.exe and a few others.   I cannot find any other apps that cause this to re-install itself.. you have any suggestions to further diagnose this PoP-up program by n-case?

This is whant i did to get rid of N-case...

Manual removal
Open the registry (click 'Start', choose 'Run' and enter 'regedit'), find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, right-click the entry 'msbb' inside it, and click 'Delete'.
 
To delete nCase/Alert, also check for a randomly-named entry three or more letters long, pointing to a .EXE of the same name in the Windows folder. Delete this entry and the file it points to. Alternatively, wait for the next restart and it should prompt to you reinstall or remove itself.

Restart the computer and you should be able to delete the 'nCase' folder inside Program Files. In older versions without an 'nCase' folder, look in the System folder (inside the Windows folder; called 'System32' under Windows NT, 2000 and XP, or just 'System' on Windows 95, 98 and Me), and delete msbb.exe.

To clean up, you can also delete the registry keys HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\nCASE, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\msbb and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\180solutions.

To delete nCase/Inst, if you have the nCase/Inst variant, open the Downloaded Program Files folder inside the Windows folder, right-click the 'nCaseInstaller Class' entry and choose 'Remove'.

I receive a pop-up that says a third party has removed n-case

What is this? How do I remedy this pop-up and do I need to reinstall n-case.

follow the steps i posted above...  since you removed n-Case, and another proggy is stilll looking at the strings.. you have to go and delete them registry entries. it has a way of re-creating itself it you dont...

How do I disable popup blocker or determine that I have popup blocker.

To get rid of the n-case program, go to www.n-case.com/ncaseuninstall.html.    This program is a popup program and you will have popups like mad!!!!  If you've done this before do it again. and it will disappear.  If not e-mail support@180solutions.com  This will work.

NCASE UNISTALL IS LIKE A VIRUS.

It does not unistall the program. It sets your pages to be their sites and thows up popups that ask you to re-install ncase when in fact they just remove the icons.Ncase needs to be removed with LAN CABLE AND MODEM CABLE disconnected because it re-installs itself in the background.


It even blocks you from getting to pest patrol or other sites that have instructions on how to remove it.

What is N-Case?
Ncase is a Comparison Alternative Shopping Engine developed by 180Solutions. It appears to be installed via an ActiveX drive-by download or bundled with several file sharing programs and a few others. It will cause pop-up advertisements, can add shortcut items to the Startup or Desktop, and update itself.

There are a couple variants of Ncase, the normal one as well as at least one installed by an Active X drive-by download.

How do I Remove NCase?

1) Because several files may be in use currently when NCase has infected your system, you should first start Windows in Safe Mode, generally by pressing F8 when the computer restarts and choosing Safe Mode for the list of choices.

2) Remove the Startup Entry in the Registry

Click on Start, Run, Type REGEDIT and Click OK

Click the pluses(+) next to the following items
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion
Run

Right-Click on the file MSBB and click DELETE
Check for any randomly named entries pointing to an EXE file of the same name in the Windows directory
(this can be part of the NCASE infection as well)

Click the pluses(+) next to the following items
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion
Uninstall
Right-click and Delete the following folders
nCase
msbb
Click the pluses(+) next to the following items
HKEY_Current_User
Software
Right-click and Delete the folder called 180solutions
3) Delete the NCASE folder and/or the MSBB.exe file

Open My Computer, Drive C, Program Files
Right-click on the NCASE folder (if it exists) and Delete it
Look for and Delete MSBB.EXE in the System or System32 directory under Windows

4) Remove the Active X Control (if present)

Open My Computer, Drive C, Windows, Downloaded Program Files folder
Right-click on the nCaseInstaller Class entry (if present) and click Delete
Close back out to the Desktop
5) Reboot the computer in Normal Mode and test (ncase should be gone)

Thank you for the insight.  Will do and let you know how it turns out.  I'm just a novice at such things.

I can't open Outlook Express and most of my files and programs.  I now get a box that says "Windows cannot open this file  and then its followed by a file with letters and .exe after the letters.  All my icons on my start menu look like notepad icons.  I may have deleted something.  I don't know..  I'm frustrated.  Please help!  I can't access my e-mail at all
