I screwed up by updating from DELL the firmware for my Sony DVD+-RW DW-D56A

and now it does not operate....so what do I have to do to get it back operating...

I cannot restore it and I am not sure if I want to "RESTore to Factory settings" just incase it won't work and then I can't install software to protect my system or any other DVDsoftware..

Someone on another board suggested I obtain PFS2...firmware....

Any suggestions on what I should  "precisely / exactly " do , step by step to get my Laptop Sony DVD +- RW DW-56A  working...

Thanks in advance ...

Sometimes, when uninstalling or installing some software on a system, the Filters
will corrupt.  The drive will disappear from the My Computer window and will be
accompanied by a Code 41, 19, 31, or other code number in the Device Manager.
Removing the Filters in the Registry will allow the system to correctly rewrite
them upon rebooting the system.  This is a very common occurance.

In the previous post when I referenced you to the appropriate Microsoft article,
the purpose was to edit the Registry Filters as you have just done.  You missed
that and hung-up on the Windows Fix-it button.  Sometime these articles can be
confusing.  The last one I posted is clearer.

We are pleased you are up again.  Keep the solution available as this problem
can occur again.  Best regards.
