Inspiron 5051 DVD Rom not working
I have an Inspiron 5051. I replaced the Cd/DVD Rom in August 2007. I tried to use it today after a long time without using it, but it won't work. It makes a sound like it is trying to read the cd (the light also flashes for a bit) but after about 20-30 seconds nothing happens. I'm not receiving any error messages either, and my computer does not recognize it on the DVD drive.
I followed the advice on the Dell support link but none of the suggestions applied.
I will greatly appreciate any suggestion!!

system and can be accessed by pressing F12 at startup. Once
in the boot menu, select Utility Partition and/or then Diagnostics
Custom Test. Have a data CD (not music CD) ready for the read test.

Thanks for the suggestion.
The DVD/CD Rom won't read the data CD though. I received the following message when I tried to perform the Custom Test: "CD does not contain any digital data..."
Still, it tries to read the cd (the drive spins and light flashes).

read the disc, it is highly possible that it has
failed. Sounds like a possible laser failure.
