Inspiron9100 won't shut down

Tried to shut down my Inspiron notebook in the usual manner. Has frozen on the 'Windows is shuttin down' blue screen. Tried CtrlAltDel and the likes - no luck. How do I switch it off? And why did it happen.........

corrib,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Press and hold the power button until it shuts down.  Count to ten and turn it back on.  Most likely, some application caused a problem during shutdown.  Watch and see if the problem occurs again, and try to keep track of what programs have been used before the problem occurs.  If the problem continues, it would helpful to have more data for troubleshooting.

Hi Corrib,

Was your shut-down problem a one-off or does it happen frequently?

I have seen the same problem with two Inspiron 9100 that I have had.

It seems it was a once off as such. To remedy it I kept the power button pressed for about 15 seconds - and that did the trick. It happened the next time I turned it on - but has never since acted up.
