Installing a 3TB HDD into an XPS 8300 gives me 746GB
I know this is a popular subject on the internet, but I haven't quite found my answer. Installing a WD 3TB HDD into my XPS 8300 WIndows 7 Home Premium 64-bit machine as a secondary drive. Not my bootable drive. BIOS, Dell A03, recognizes it. Intel RST sees it as a 3 TB drive. Initialized it in Disk Management as a GPT but it shows up as 746G. I would like to put my finger on it before I start downloading and upgrading system software. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Tbob79,
You need to update the Intel RST. It can't hurt to update your BIOS too.

If I remember correctly, I didn't need to install RST to have my Dells, new or old, recognize my large drives.

Thanks OSPREY4 for helping me to confirm what I thought I knew to do. It worked great!
