Latitude D630 - hard drive upgrade

Hello

I hve Latitude D630. my HD is fine, i just want to replace it with a new BIGGER one

based on my service tag, the dell support center (over the phone) told me that my pc cn handle as much as 160GB of hard drive. is that correct? i'm interesting in buying the WD Scorpio Blue 500GB but according to what i've been told - it won't work.

would like to her your opinion

thanks

Depending what you want you might want to consider installation of a SSD such as a Crucial M500. The SSD costs much more per GB but the performance benefits are significant:

http://www.crucial.com/uk/upgrade/Dell-memory/Latitude/Latitude+D630-upgrades.html

The system will be a lot more responsive with a SSD.

Note Windows should be installed on the new Hard Drive and preferably Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. For details on how to do this see Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean Install of Windows 7/8.1 64 Bit:

http://philipyip.wordpress.com/dell-community-forums/

The following system drivers can be used for Windows 7 64 Bit:

http://philipyip.wordpress.com/unofficial-driver-sets/latitude-d-series-laptops/latitude-d630-windows-7-64-bit/

For Windows 8.1 ignore the OS Updates and System Utilities.

If the system came with Windows XP note that it reaches End of Life in April and it is advised against reinstallation of an obsolete Windows product, for more information see:

Do you have a driver set for a Latitude E6410?

No. I don't because Dell has Windows 7 drivers listed for the E6410 which are best accessed from the FTP website here:
