Lite On LTN486 48x Max CD drive no longer works

December 16th, 2005 18:00

It does show up.  The CD drive was installed with the system when it was purchased.  At that time the system had Windows ME.  I have upgraded to XP since then.

How about a few details? What system? Have you checked Device Manager? Those types of things.

I have a Dimension 4100 with XP.  I have deleted and reinstalled the drive and it still
does not show up.

Has it worked since XP was installed? Have you installed Roxio or Nero. If so, you might want to look at the steps outlined in Predator's Articles on "Device not recognized / not found....". Post back and let me know how things worked out.

Restart and boot to system setup and check IDE devices. Does the drive show up there? Did this drive come with the system or did you install it?

It has been a while since I upgraded to XP and don't use the drive very often but, I don't recall it working since I installed XP.  I have not installed Roxio or Nero.  I have looked on the Dell and Lite On websites for updated drivers but, there are not any.

The drivers are generic. Of course, they can still go wrong, but the procedure to reinstall drivers is just delete the device in Device Manager and reboot. Try that. I'll look for a firmware update.
